With only a few exceptions, what the genomics companies are doing right now is recreational genomics. The information has little or in many cases no clinical relevance.

Kudos to the NYTimes for going against the trend piece tide (for once) and pointing out that DNA is not a magic bullet that will explain all our pains and  mysteries at once. The 23andMe wave is just another round of brain-scans and phrenology that aims to reduce complex problems to a single variable. So glad to find this article this morning. I’m pretty sure this is the first DNA debunking science journalism I’ve encountered in the mainstream press. (via NYTimes.com)
