I'm Drew Breunig and I obsess about technology, media, language, and culture. I live in New York, studied anthropology, and work in advertising technology.

These are reactions to things I feel are important.

Alexis Madrigal discusses how technology evolves, using the calculator as a lens. Thanks to institutional standardization and adequate performance, the TI-83 stands the test of time.

I’d contribute that remote controls have remained unchanged in a similar fashion, but not for the precisely the same reasons. Only now, as components are coalesce (think Netflix built into your TV or BluRay player) are remotes starting to simplify.  (via The Atlantic)
