Remember all the noise about the ‘filter bubble’ last week? The idea that over-personalization of the internet prevents you from being exposed to new and different content, ideas and people?
Sonar is the bubble at its worst. Download it if you hate happenstance. Sonar is predicated on the idea that smalltalk is bad, talking to people is only worthwhile if you know what the other person can do for you, and the user is so busy that even socialization must be optimized. That last one’s a dangerous line to cross.
Thankfully, I can’t imagine this network will last long. Early adopters, the people actually drawn to this app, are exactly the type of people VCs and girls who read Hemingway tend to avoid.
