“ The Arizona bill, which opponents and critics alike said was the broadest and strictest immigration measure in the country in generations, would make failure to carry immigration documents a crime, and give the police broad power to detain anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. Opponents have decried it as an open invitation to harassment and discrimination against all Latinos regardless of their citizenship status.”
Annnnnnd it was just signed. I’m pretty sure this is the textbook definition of fascism.
Also: as this bill essentially requires the police to seriously consider arresting anyone who is Latino and not carrying proof of residency on them at all times, I can’t wait until the 2010 Census comes back and suggests the PD should be hounding 50%+ of the state. (Via NYTimes.com)
