The new MacBoook Airs come with a software reinstall USB drive instead of DVDs. This change, combined with iDVD’s absence from the new iLife, perhaps signal the end of life for the compact disc format.

How long do you think it will be before Apple’s entire laptop line ships without disc drives? Personally, I swapped out my MacBook’s Super Drive for an extra 500GB of hard disc, but I’d gladly use the real estate for a sleeker design or greater battery life.
