An HIV vaccine will mostly cause hypochondriacs to rush to their local clinic and others to, at best, scribble an appointment in the weekly planner.

A So-So HIV Vaccine May Be a Hard Sell | Smart Journalism. Real Solutions. Miller-McCune.

A vaccine against HIV may not be too far away, but if researchers want people use it, it’d better be good.

To me, this is the least of our worries. This vax needs a huge marketing campaign.

Remember the fuss over the vax for HPV shot? Despite huge upsides, many parents protested plans for the shot because the risk for cervical cancer only exists if you’re sexually active, an insulation conservative parents weren’t willing to make about their 14 year old daughter.

Now imagine an HIV vaccine, and what being an at-risk individual might imply. I hope that if a vax is reached, we’re willing to invest in the education needed to change perceptions.
