The Dieline directs our attention to the packaging of one of my favorite single-malts, The Glenrothes. To refresh the design, The Glenrothes made two changes that have quickly spread to competing brands seeking to capture the premium status the packaging evokes.

Inspired by behavior they noticed in the scotch’s tasting room, designers created the “hand-signed” label to create a personal, hand-crafted aura. To support this perception they also went against whiskey conventions and printed the birthdate (1979) rather than the age (15 year) on the bottle.

Small touches, to be sure. But when paired with the minimalist packaging the impression is consistent and powerful. (Via The Dieline)
