When dealing with data, it’s good to think about the data’s “potential energy.” The lower the potential energy, the more work has to be done upon the data before insights can emerge. Thanks to its tight focus and cleanliness, I don’t think there’s a source of data with a higher potential energy than LinkedIn. Megabyte to megabyte, it’s potentially more valuable than Facebook or even Google.

(Though they’ll obliterate LinkedIn with scale….)
