I’m surprised that people are amazed by Bing’s growth. Further, I’m surprised Bing isn’t growing faster. The penetration rate of IE is absurd, even if Firefox, Safari and now Chrome are nibbling away its market-share. For the most part, people aren’t aware of a difference between browsers. In fact, I’d venture most IE users still call its icon, “the internet.” As in: “open up the internet.”

With this humongous base of digitally challenged users, I’m surprised that Microsoft’s forced implementation of Bing into IE’s search bar hasn’t yielded more uniques. Perhaps it’s because this segment doesn’t use the in-house search bar or simply hasn’t updated to the point of having one.

Either way: expect Bing’s growth to continue. Bundling pulls a ton of weight.
