But the most impressive thing about the Nook Tablet — and the whole Nook business, really — is that it actually exists.

Dan Frommer on the freshly announced Nook Tablet.

Let’s think about the Nook for a moment. More than any other consumer electronics device, the Nook drives me mad. It short circuits the marketplace by appealing to tech writers, not consumers, and uses shiny features to hide the single biggest weakness of the device, that it’s entirely reliant on Barnes & Noble eBooks.

Every review I’ve hit of the new Nook Tablet mostly talks specs. Meanwhile, over on the Amazon forums, a more interesting conversation is taking place among actual users as to whether it’s possible to read the more numerous, cheaper Kindle eBooks on a Kindle. One user has a suggestion for Amazon:

Amazon is missing a HUGE market, as every single Nook owner there said that they would probably purchase a lot of Kindle Books if they could read them on their Nooks. Yet none of them thought they would also purchase a Kindle in addition to their Nook…. so as I see it, by Amazon restricting their access, they are wiping out a HUGE potential market of ebook readers. I thought they were more market-wise than that!
