To everyone excited about the prospects of an Apple TV, I’d like to remind you of the iPod Hi-Fi. It was pretty, expensive ($349), bulky, and awkward (required 6 D batteries for portability). Is a speaker for an iPod that different from a screen for an Apple TV, iPhone, or iPad? The Apple experience works well inside a Dell monitor, Sony TV, or Bose dock.

What would a full Apple TV have to do to avoid the misstep of the Hi-Fi? (Photo via Matthew Piper)
